Step-by-Step Instructions 


1. Access the Cash Receipt Journal 

  • Navigate to the Cash Receipt Journal page within Dynamics 365 Business Central. 

  • To do this, use the search bar at the top of the page and type "Cash Receipt Journal," then select it from the list.

2. Create a New Journal Line 

  • In the Cash Receipt Journal page, type directly into the grid to create a new journal line. 


3. Enter Customer Information 

  • In the Account Type field, select Customer. 

  • In the Account Number field, select the customer who made the payment. 


4. Enter the Amount and Description 

  • In the Amount field, enter the amount received from the customer. 

  • Optionally, in the Description field, add a brief description of the transaction for your records. 


5. Select the Bank Account 

  • In the Bal. Account Type field, select Bank Account. 

  • In the Bal. Account No. field, select the bank account to which the cash receipt will be posted.

6. Applying Entries 

To ensure that the payment is applied correctly to the vendor's outstanding invoices: 

  • With the journal line still selected, click on Apply Entries... from the Ribbon. 

  • A new window will open displaying all the open ledger entries for the selected customer. 

  • Select the invoice(s) you want to apply the payment to by clicking into the Applies-to ID field next to each ledger entry. 

  • Click Set Applies-to ID to mark the selected ledger entry with the document number of the journal line, and then press OK to confirm the application.

7. Check for Accuracy 

  • Review the information entered to ensure accuracy. Confirm that the customer, amount, and bank account details are correct. 


8. Post the Journal Line 

  • Once you have verified all the details, click on Post in the ribbon at the top of the page. 

  • Confirm the posting when prompted to complete the transaction. 


9. Verify the Transaction 

  • After posting, navigate to the relevant customer and bank account records to verify that the cash receipt has been recorded and posted correctly.
